This month, we’re heading outdoors with the best drinks for the backyard, beach, and beyond. In Take It Outside, we’re exploring our favorite local spots and far-flung destinations that make summer the ultimate season for elevated drinking.
For kids, summer means games on the beach, pool parties, and frozen desserts. Most adults probably enjoy all those things, too — only with a side of rosé. As refreshing as a chilled glass of pink wine can be, there’s another exciting way to enjoy rosé this summer, and it would make our childhood selves proud.
Enter rosé popsicles. A combination of your favorite dry rosé, juicy ripe strawberries, and a little sweetener, these easy-to-make summer treats are the perfect way to cool down on a warm summer day. Think of these popsicles as frosé’s Gen Z cousin, taking old trends and making them cool again.
The process is easy: Simply add all the ingredients to a blender, and combine until smooth. Then, strain out the strawberry seeds (or keep them in for some texture), and freeze.
While good old simple syrup serves as the most neutral sweetening agent, natural liquid sweeteners like honey, agave nectar, monk fruit syrup, and maple syrup will also do the trick. While Stevia would also work, its bitter taste competes with that of lower-end rosés. For those wanting to go that route, make extra sure to snag some good quality pink wine, like these.
If you happen to have popsicle molds on hand, funnel the juice right into the molds, freeze, and enjoy. But if you don’t have the space or don’t want to invest in another kitchen gadget, we have you covered. Those colorful freeze pops you loved way back when are once again useful. Buy a pack and — since they typically come unfrozen — just pour out the juice in a few. Next, fill them with the rosé mixture. Once filled, use a hair straightener or iron to close up the plastic casing. (You can also use disposable plastic popsicle sleeves like these). Now, you’re ready to pop them in the freezer and enjoy a couple on the beach, at the park, or right in your own backyard.
